#AESB League Play Continues This Weekend

Three America East softball series are slated for this weekend with three teams playing their first league games of the season. All six teams will try to dodge the rain drops as one series is currently scheduled for Saturday, March 29 and Sunday, March 30 and two others slated for Sunday and Monday, March 31.

Here's a look at the three weekend series:

Maine (10-9, 2-1 AE) at UMass Lowell (4-13, 0-0 AE)

Sat., March 29, 12 p.m./2 p.m. - Live Stats 

Sun., March 30, 12 p.m. - Live Stats

  • Maine, winner of four of is last six games, goes for its second-straight league series win after taking its opening set from Hartford last weekend. 
  • The Black Bears, who rank second in the league with a .259 team average, scored 22 runs in the last two games against Hartford last weekend.
  • UMass Lowell will play its first-ever America East contests after its series with Binghamton was rained out last week.
  • The series was originally scheduled to be played in Maine and was shifted to UMass Lowell because Maine's field was unplayable.

Binghamton (7-10, 0-0 AE) at Albany (9-7, 1-2 AE)

Mon., March 31, 12 p.m. - Live Stats

  • Binghamton opens league play after getting its series with UMass Lowell was postponed last weekend while Albany dropped two of three at Stony Brook to open league play.
  • Albany and Binghamton finished first and second, respectively, in the league standings last year.
  • All-conference hurlers Brittany McFawn and Demi Laney figure to square off in the circle.

Stony Brook (10-12, 2-1 AE) at UMBC (20-9, 0-0 AE)

Mon., March 31, 12 p.m. - Live Stats 

  • UMBC plays its first league games of the year while Stony Brook goes for its second-straight series win.
  • UMBC has its best record entering league play since 2006.
  • The Retrievers are the top hitting team in the league, batting .291 as a team and averaging 5.5 runs per game.
  • Stony Brook took two of three from Albany last weekend behind Allison Cukrov's performance on the mound, which earned her America East Pitcher of the Week honors.
