Phelan, Caridi, Murphy Earn #AEWLAX Weekly Honors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The two unbeaten teams in America East women's lacrosse conference play took home weekly honors, as Albany's Allie Phelan (Offensive Player of the Week) and Stony Brook's Frankie Caridi (Defensive Player of the Week) and Courtney Murphy (Rookie of the Week) each took home awards. Here is a closer look at the week eight award winners:

Offensive Player of the Week
Allie Phelan, Sr., M, Albany
Clarksville, N.Y.

  • Ranked second in the conference with eight goals and 10 points in a 1-1 week for Albany.
  • Finished the week with a 4.0 goals per game averaged and 5.0 points per game while recording a .727 shooting percentage.
  • Started the week with five goals on five shots as Albany put a scare into No. 3/3 Syracuse.
  • Tallied three goals and two assists as the Danes topped Vermont in conference action.

Defensive Player of the Week
Frankie Caridi, Sr., GK, Stony Brook
East Northport, N.Y.

  • Allowed just three goals over a two-game span while making 12 saves as Stony Brook went 2-0.
  • Led the conference with an .800 save percentage and a 1.62 goals against averaged.
  • Made seven saves on nine shots in a win over Jacksonville, holding the eighth-ranked scoring offense in the country to its lowest goal total of the season (2).
  • She has limited opponents to single-digit goals 11 times, five goals or fewer eight times and three goals or fewer five times.

Rookie of the Week
Courtney Murphy, Fr., A, Stony Brook
Shirley, N.Y.

  • Led the conference last week in goals with 10 and points with 11, averaging 5.0 goals per game and 5.5 points per game in a 2-0 week for the Seawolves.
  • Scored four goals, including the game-winner, on five shots in a 13-2 win over Jacksonville.
  • Recorded game-highs of six goals and seven points in a 16-3 victory against Binghamton.
  • Also led the conference with a .769 shooting percentage.
  • Has scored in 10 of her first 12 collegiate games, totaling 37 goals on the season.

Around the League

  • Stony Brook freshman Dorrien Van Dyke is three goals shy of the freshman scoring record of 46 set by Kaitlin Leggio in 2006.
  • New Hampshire held a conference opponent to less than five goals for the first time since 2009 with an 8-2 win over UMBC. It was the first time the Wildcats had held a conference foe to as few as two goals since April of 2006, an 18-2 win against Binghamton.
  • Albany has 10 wins for the fifth-straight season and are riding a 12-game winning sreak at John Fallon Field.
  • Vermont’s Sydney Mas tied the program all-time points record with her 241st against Albany.
  • Stony Brook head coach Joe Spallina is one win shy of tying Stony Brook’s all-time wins record.
  • The Seawolves have been ranked nationally in both major polls for 22-straight weeks.
