Trio Earns #AEMLAX Weekly Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Three players from teams that posted key America East men's lacrosse wins over the weekend are the league's weekly award winners. Albany's Miles Thompson and UMBC's Pat Young shared Player of the Week honors while Binghamton's Dan Mazurek garnered Rookie of the Week accolades:

Co-Player of the Week
Miles Thompson, Sr., Attacker, Albany

  • Tallied five goals and two assists to lead Albany to a 17-7 win over Stony Brook on Saturday.
  • The victory secured his team an America East championship berth.
  • The award is Thompson's third of the season and fifth of his career.

Co-Player of the Week
Pat Young, So., Midfielder, UMBC

  • Scored a career-high five goals to lead UMBC to a 16-11 win over Hartford Saturday.
  • Four of the five scores came in the fourth quarter.
  • This is his first career Player of the Week honor.

 

Rookie of the Week
Dan Mazurek, Fr., Faceoff Specialist, Binghamton

 

  • Set a pair of program records in Binghamton's 9-6 win over Vermont Saturday, winning 94 percent of his faceoffs (17-of-18) and picking up 14 ground balls.
  • Tallied first career point, an assist in the fourth quarter.

Around the League

  • Albany, Binghamton and UMBC earned win in their conference openers over the weekend: Recap
  • Binghamton (5-6, 3-0 AE) outscored Vermont (5-5, 0-2 AE), 3-1, in the fourth quarter to down the Catamounts, 9-6, and improve to 3-0 in league play for the first time since 2004.
  • The win earned the Bearcats their first America East tournament berth since 2011.
  • Trailing 2-0, Albany (6-5, 3-0 AE) scored eight-straight goals and allowed a season-low seven goals for opponent to down Stony Brook (5-8, 1-2 AE), 17-7, and improved to 3-0 in league play and locked up an America East Championship bid.
  • UMBC (6-5, 2-1 AE) scored the game's first five goals and held off a late Hartford (5-8, 0-3 AE) rally to win 16-11 and improve to 2-1 in America East play.
  • Lyle and Miles Thompson rank first and second nationally in points per game, averaging 6.6 and 6.1 respectively.
  • Lyle leads the country in assists while Miles is tops in goals.
  • Albany leads the nation scoring 15.1 goals per game.
  • Conference play continues Saturday with Binghamton hosting Stony Brook, Vermont visiting Hartford and UMBC entertaining Albany.
