Roach, Caridi, Van Dyke Earn #AEWLAX Weekly Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Stony Brook Seawolves clinched the No. 1 seed and right to host the 2014 America East women’s lacrosse championship last week as conference play enters the final week of the regular-season. The big win for Stony Brook netted the team a pair of weekly awards, as Frankie Caridi was named Defensive Player of the Week and Dorrien Van Dyke took home Rookie of the Week. Vermont earned an important win over Binghamton and Jessica Roach was named Offensive Player of the Week for her 11-point effort. Here are the week 10 award winners:

Offensive Player of the Week
Jessica Roach, Jr., A, Vermont
Scituate, Mass.

  • Averaged 4.0 goals and 4.0 assists over two games in a 1-1 week for Vermont.
  • Registered a career-high 11 points on five goals and six assists against Binghamton.
  • Here six assists vs. Binghamton tied the UVM record for most assists in a game.
  • Picked up three goals and two assists vs. nationally-ranked Boston College.
  • Had an .889 shooting percentage, converting eight of her nine shots into goals.

Defensive Player of the Week
Frankie Caridi, Sr., GK, Stony Brook
East Northport, N.Y.

  • Made eight saves and allowed just five goals in a 15-5 win over New Hampshire.
  • Leads the country and goals against average and save percentage.
  • Finished the game with a .615 save percentage.
  • Kept an opponent to single-digit goals for the 14th time in 15 games and to five goals or fewer for the 10th time.
  • Shutout UNH over the final 17:58 to help Stony Brook lock-up at least a share of the regular season title and hosting rights for the America East Championship for the second-consecutive season.

Rookie of the Week
Dorrien Van Dyke, Fr., M, Stony Brook
Northport, N.Y.

  • Totaled three goals and four assists for seven points, helping Stony Brook to a 15-5 win over New Hampshire.
  • Also added three ground balls and one draw control.
  • Her 57 total points lead the team and are the most by a freshman in a single season in Stony Brook history.

  • Stony Brook clinched the No. 1 seed and right to host the 2014 America East Championship as well as at-least a share of the regular-season title.
  • Albany clinched a spot in the America East Championship.
  • Albany’s John Battaglino recorded his fifth-straight 12-win season as Albany defeated UMBC.
  • Stony Brook head coach Joe Spallina broke the Seawolves’ program record for most America East wins by a head coach with 15.
  • New Hampshire sophomore Laura McHoul recorded her 100th career point vs. Stony Brook.
  • Vermont’s Sydney Mas is tied for the most goals in a season in program history with 57.
  • Stony Brook freshman Courtney Murphy broke the school record for most goals by a freshman in a season with 47 while classmate Dorrien Van Dyke broke the record for most points by a freshman with 57.
  • The Seawolves have been ranked nationally in both major polls for 24-straight weeks.
