Parker, Hopkins, Martin Earn Final #AEWLAX Weekly Awards

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Albany claimed two of the final three America East women’s lacrosse weekly awards after earning a share of the regular-season title with a win over New Hampshire Saturday. Vermont also earned a weekly honor after winning an overtime contest against Stony Brook to qualify for the America East Championship for the second-straight year. Stony Brook will be the No. 1 seed and will host the tournament for the second-straight year on May 2 and 4. Albany is the No. 2 seed, Vermont is the No. 3 seed and New Hampshire took the No. 4 seed. Here are the final weekly award winners:

Offensive Player of the Week
Ariana Parker, Sr., M, Albany
Port Ewen, N.Y.

  • Tied a career-high with seven points to help Albany get past New Hampshire and earn a share of the America East regular-season title.
  • Parker scored three goals and added four assists for the highest point total of any America East player over the weekend.
  • It was her fifth game this season with five or more points.
  • Parker ranks third in UAlbany history with 144 goals and 181 career points.

Rookie of the Week
Sarah Martin, Fr., A, Albany
Hampden, Mass.

  • Scored two goals and added one assist to help Albany beat New Hampshire and earn the No. 2 seed in the America East Championship.
  • It was her second-straight game with two or more goals.
  • She tallied a goal in every conference game this season.

Defensive Player of the Week
Meg Hopkins, Jr., GK, Vermont
Penn Yan, N.Y.

  • Made three saves to help Vermont beat Stony Brook and clinch a spot in the America East tournament.
  • Held the Seawolves to single-digit goals for just the fifth time this season.
  • Allowed just seven goals in the OT win and picked up one ground ball.

Around the League

  • Stony Brook is the No. 1 seed and will host the America East Championship for the second-straight year and third time in program history.
  • Vermont earned its highest seed in the conference tournament since 2008 after beating Stony Brook, 8-7, in OT.
  • The Catamounts closed out the regular-season with a program record 12 wins.
  • UNH sophomore attacker Laura McHoul broke UNH’s single-season assist record, finishing with 36 during the regular-season.
  • UNH is making its 15th appearance in the America East Championship.
  • Albany earned a share of its third regular-season title in program history.
  • Stony Brook head coach Joe Spallina broke the Seawolves’ program record for most America East wins by a head coach with 15.
  • The Seawolves have been ranked nationally in both major polls for 25-straight weeks.
