Hartford clinched a spot in the America East tournament for the first time since 1996 after sweeping UMBC last weekend. The Hawks are tied for first and boast the best team ERA in the conference at 2.83. Game one starter, Sean Newcomb, enters the contest 5-2 with a 0.98 ERA and tossed a complete-game shutout in his last outing against UMBC.

UMass Lowell is 8-3 in its last 11 games heading into the weekend and has three of the top six batting averages in the conference in Mottola, Sanchez and Mendick. The River Hawks are currently third in the standings but are not eligible for the America East Championship while making the transition to Division I.

Maine can clinch a spot in the America East Championship if the Black Bears sweep Albany and UMBC is swept by Stony Brook. Maine ace Tommy Lawrence has been almost perfect in his last three outings with three-straight complete games and allowing just one run. He has a league-best 84 strikeouts.

Albany split four games against NJIT last weekend and returns to conference play looking for its third conference series win this season. Josh Nethaway had a big offensive weekend for the Great Danes against the Highlanders, going 6-for-14 with 10 RBI in the series. He leads the team with 5 home runs and 30 RBI.
