Stony Brook's Baker Named NCBWA Freshman All-American
Lynchburg, Va. - Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) of the Stony Brook baseball team has been selected first-team freshman All-America by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), the organization announced Monday.
Baker is the second #Seawolves rookie to earn freshman All-America recognition this year, joining Cameron Stone (West Haven, Conn.), who was placed on the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team last week.
Baker enjoyed a standout rookie campaign in 2014, hitting .338 with 27 RBI, 22 runs scored, a .418 on-base percentage and eight stolen bases, helping him earn America East All-Rookie team honors. During conference play, he also hit .333 with 13 RBI and nine runs scored. In conference play, he ranked 12th in the league in hitting and 10th in on-base percentage (.408).
Baker was a was a two-time America East Rookie of the Week during the season; he was 6-for-9 against Fordham March 8-9 to pick up the March 10th award, and he was 6-for-10 with two triples and six RBI vs. Maine to garner the May 5th accolade. Baker was also named to the America East Championship All-Tournament team after hitting .353 with a team-best six RBI and two stolen bases in four games
