6 #AEBASE Players Honored by ABCA
The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) released their All-Region and All-American teams on Monday and six America East student-athletes earned recognition.
Hartford junior Sean Newcomb was an ABCA All-America Second Team selection, the highest honor for any player from the Northeast Region. Newcomb, who also was named to the All-Northeast Region First Team, was the second highest draft pick in America East history back on June 5th, going 15th overall to the Los Angeles Angels.
In addition to being named the league's top pitcher, Newcomb was also tabbed as the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association Pitcher of the Year and earned First Team All-New England honors this past season. He was also named to the America East All-Championship Team after earning a 6-1 victory, tossing seven innings and allowing one unearned run against the Bearcats.
Stony Brook junior Kevin Krause joined Newcomb as an ABCA All-American selection, landing on the third team. The 2014 America East Player of the Year, Krause also was a Northeast Region First Team pick and was recently drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the eighth round of the MLB Draft.
Four America East players earned spots on the ABCA All-Northeast Region second team. Binghamton second baseman Daniel Nevares, an America East Second Team selection, and outfielder Bill Bereszniewicz, a 28th round pick by the Los Angeles Dodgers, earned spots. Stony Brook also had a pair of selections in starting pitcher Brandon McNitt and reliever Cameron Stone. McNitt was taken in the 27th round by the Houston Astros while Stone was the America East Rookie of the Year.
