UNH's Purrier Finishes 9th at IIAF World Jr. Championships

EUGENE, Ore. -- Rising sophomore Elinor Purrier (Montgomery, Vt.) of the University of New Hampshire women's track & field team placed ninth with a time of 10 minutes, 21.59 seconds in the 3,000-meter steeplechase final at the IAAF World Junior Championships, hosted at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field on Saturday.

Purrier, the lone American in the final race, reached Saturday's prestigious event after setting a personal-best 10:08.33 in the preliminary heats to place sixth overall. TheUSATF Junior All-American and USTFCCCA All-America Second Team honoree was amongst 15 of the world's elite high school and college student-athletes under the age of 20 in the event.

The distance runner is the first in UNH history to compete at the IAAF World Junior Championships.
