Volleyball Opens Season This Weekend

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The fall seasons officially gets into full swing this weekend with volleyball as one of three sports to open across the country on Friday. All seven America East teams begin their seasons Friday at tournaments across the country. Check out the schedule:

Friday, August 29

UMBC takes the court first at the Hawks Holiday Hullabaloo Tournament hosted by UMES at 10 a.m. The Retrievers play four matches, beginning with South Dakota St. UMBC was picked to win the conference title this season after falling in the tournament final to UNH a year ago.

UMass Lowell searches for its first Division I win under first-year head coach Resa Provanzano at the Bryant Tournament. The River Hawks face the host Bulldogs at 1 pm.

Binghamton makes a trip to the West Coast and the Loyola Marymount Tournament, facing UCLA at 5 pm ET. The Bearcats just barely missed out on the America East tournament last year but won the title in 2012.

Hartford takes the short trip up to Massachusetts for the Chestnut Hill Invitational where they will face host Boston College at 7 p.m. ET. Albany also opens at 7 p.m. vs. Delaware at the University of Delaware Invitational.

Reigning America East champion New Hampshire gets its season started against Connecticut at the UConn Invitational at 7:30 pm. The Wildcats were picked second in the preseason poll.

Stony Brook closes out the night at 8 p.m. against DePaul. The Seawolves enter the season picked third, the highest they have landed in the preseason poll.
