Thompson, Ohlmiller Tabbed Tewaaraton Nominees

Release: 04/23/2015

A pair of America East lacrosse standouts hailing from two of the best teams in the country in their respective sport have been named 2015 Tewaaraton Award nominees. Albany's Lyle Thompson, who shared the 2014 Tewaaraton Award with his brother Miles, is one of 25 men's nominees while Stony Brook's Kylie Ohmiller, the leading scorer on fifth-ranked Stony Brook, is one of just three freshmen among the 25 women's nominees.

Thompson, a senior attacker, is a nominee for the third straight year. He currently leads all of Division I with 6.29 points and 3.79 assists per game, tallying 35 goals and 53 assists on the year for 88 points. The two-time America East Player of the Year became the NCAA all-time leading scorer in Division I earlier this season and has led UAlbany to a #7 ranking in the USILA Coaches Poll and Inside Lacrosse media poll, the team’s highest placement since 2007.

Ohlmiller is one of only three freshmen to be named a nominee. The attacker is third in the conference with 4.00 points per game, totaling 34 goals and 30 assists. She has helped Stony Brook to its highest national ranking in program history at #6 in the IWLCA Coaches' Poll and #5 in the Inside Lacrosse media poll as of April 20. The freshman has played her best on the biggest stages with five goals, one assist in a win over then-No. 7 Florida and four goals, two assists vs. then-No. 5 Northwestern.

Five men’s and five women’s finalists will be selected from these groups of 25, announced on Thursday, May 7, and invited to the ceremony. The 15th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held Thursday, May 28 in Washington, D.C., at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian.
