STOCKTON, Calif. - A pair of West Division programs will play for the 2016 America East field hockey title after Stanford and Pacific each won their semifinal contests Saturday at the University of the Pacific. #W1 Stanford scored twice in the second half to beat #W3 California, 2-0, in the first semifinal of the day while #W2 Pacific scored 3:29 into overtime to down #E1 Albany, 3-2, in the nightcap.
The two teams will play for the conference title on Sunday at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT at Pacific's Field Hockey Turf. The game will be streamed live for free on AmericaEast.TV. Paul Muyskens (play-by-play) and Tucker Warford (analyst) will have the call.
In the day's first game, Lucy Dikeou scored a pair of second-half goals, in the 54th and 61st minutes, to propel Stanford to its first America East championship game. Kelsey Bing made four saves to record her league-leading fifth shutout of the season.
In the nightcap, Kriecki van Wyk took a feed from Savannah Burns to send Pacific to its first America East final with her goal 3:29 into overtime. Leah Cofer and Kyleigh Morrison scored the other two goals for the Tigers, who responded to adversity well, scoring within three minutes of an Albany goal twice. Megan Ma and Viola von der Muhlen were the goal scorers for the Great Danes.
Stanford and Pacific split their two regular-season meetings with the home team winning each time. The Cardinal won 3-0 on Oct. 9 with the Tigers taking the Oct. 16 matchup, 1-0.
