Stanford Captures First #AEFH Championship, Will Face UNC in NCAA First Round

STOCKTON, Calif. – For the first time in program history, Stanford is the America East field hockey champion. Jordan Barry’s first-half goal proved to be the difference as the Cardinal, the top seed from the west, knocked off Pacific, the second seed from the west, 1-0, at Pacific’s Field Hockey Turf Sunday afternoon.

Stanford, whose win was their seventh straight, advances to the NCAA tournament for the seventh time in the last eight years. The Cardinal (14-5) will learn their NCAA draw during the NCAA selection show Sunday at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT on

Senior back Fran Tew earned the championship’s Most Outstanding Player honor as she led a back line that surrendered just two goals in Stanford’s three tournament games and none in the semifinals or final.

Barry’s goal came in the 16th minute as she tipped in a feed from Nina Randolph. The goal was the first career tally for the sophomore.

After Stanford dominated the first half, generating eight shots to Pacific’s two, each team had three second-half shots. But Pacific, which had won 16 of its last 17 games and led the conference averaging 4.6 goals per game, could not score despite four second-half penalty corners.

Joining Tew on the All-Championship team are teammates Caroline Beaudoin, Maddie Bing and Lucy Dikeou, Pacific’s Allie Campus, Krieki van Wyk and Laura Pujade, Albany’s Dana Bozek and Paula Heuser, California’s Katrina Carter and Monica Marrazzo, UC Davis’s Beth Lee, Maine’s Danielle Aviani, UMass Lowell’s Annie Villare and New Hampshire’s Lindsey Nerbonne.

Pacific’s Kylie Morrison earned the America East Elite 17 field hockey honor for having the highest GPA among student-athletes participating the in the championship game. Morrison, a senior, has a 3.72 GPA as a business administration major with a finance concentration.
