Reigning #AESB Champion Maine Unanimously Chosen 2017 Favorites
BOSTON - Reigning America East softball champion Maine is the conference's preseason favorite according to the conference's 2017 preseason coaches' poll announced Wednesday. The Black Bears, who captured their first league title since 2004 last season, were a unanimous selection, receiving all six possible first-place votes and 36 points in a vote of the league’s seven head coaches who were not allowed to vote for their own team.
Binghamton, last year's regular-season champion, followed in second after earning the final first-place tally and 28 points. Albany and Stony Brook, which have combined for seven conference titles since 2005, following in third and fourth, respectively.

The season kicks off Feb. 10 with conference play beginning on April 1. For the second-straight year, the top six teams in the conference standings (UMass Lowell is ineligible until 2018) will qualify for the conference championship, which takes place May 10-13 at the top seed.
