Trio of #AEHoops Standouts Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

Three standout America East basketball standouts have been recognized for their impressive accomplishments on the court and in the classroom. University of Maine's Sigi Koizar, University at Albany's David Nichols and UMBC's Joe Sherburne were all named Academic All-District honorees by CoSIDA Thursday and are automatically eligible for Academic All-America consideration later this month. 

Sigi Koizar, Sr., Maine

  • First-team District I women's selection
  • 3.97 GPA in biology
  • 2nd-team Academic All-American in 2016
  • Two-time first-team All-America East 
  • Leads Maine and ranks in top 10 among league scoring leaders

David Nichols, So., Albany

  • First-team District I men's selection
  • 3.88 GPA in communications
  • Ranks 4th in the America East scoring 17.0 points per game and is 8th in assists (3.3 apg)

Joe Sherburne, So., UMBC

  • First-team District II men's selection
  • Has a perfect 4.00 GPA in financial economics
  • Leads America East and ranks among national leaders shooting 50 percent from three-point land.
  • Overall, ranks 12th in the conference in scoring (12.8 ppg)

CoSIDA's Academic All-America program recognizes deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions with these elite scholar-athlete honors.
