UMBC's Daigneau, Holte Sweep #AESB Weekly Accolades

BOSTON – Binghamton and UMBC were the lone America East softball teams in action last week and both picked up wins. The Bearcats beat 2016 NCAA tournament participant Oklahoma State, which was receiving votes in the national polls, on Sunday while UMBC posted wins over Appalachian State and Howard. Here are the week #2 award winners:

Player & Rookie of the Week
Maddie Daigneau, UMBC - Fr., SS, New River, Ariz.

  • Hit .471 in six games going 8-for-17 and had a .500 on base percentage.
  • Belted a pair of doubles and two triples for an .824 slugging percentage.
  • Stole three bases and scored a pair of runs.
  • Played errorless shortstop converting all 15 attempts.
  • This is Daigneau's first Player or Rookie of the Week honor.

Pitcher of the Week
Jessica Holte, UMBC - Sr., Pitcher, Ashland, Va.

  • Allowed just three runs over 9 1/3 innings for a 2.25 ERA.
  • Didn't walk a hitter and struck out seven.
  • Fired a complete-game, four-hit shutout with seven strikeouts to lead UMBC to a 1-0 win over Appalachian State.
  • This is Holte's first Pitcher of the Week award of the season and fourth of her career (2/25/14, 3/18/14, 3/1/16).
