New Hampshire's Purrier, Albany's Claxton, Campbell Named All-Americans
BOSTON - Elinor Purrier capped off her stellar indoor season with a second-place finish in the mile at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, earning All-American honors. She held a lead as the race approached the finish and crossed the line in a time of 4:31.88.
Purrier ran the second fastest mile in the country this season at 4:29.44 in the Wanamaker Mile at the Millrose Games last month. She has advanced to the finals in four straight NCAA Championships, including twice in the mile.
Albany senior Matthew Campbell conluded his year in track and field with an 11th-place finish in the high jump, clearing 7-00.50. He was named a Second Team All-American, which follows his First Team All-American honor from the 2016 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Campbell's teammate and fellow senior Grace Claxton was also named to the All-American Second Team. After finishing 12th in the 400m prelims in a time of 53.11, Claxton concluded her season with another All-American honor.
