Vermont’s Matt Chavez (Austin, Texas/Lake Travis) and Alon Lubezky (Kfar Shmaryahu, Israel/Yovel Herzlia) of Hartford were named America East Players of the Week, while Binghamton’s Stefan Gonet (Refrewshire, Scotland/Trinity) was named America East Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday, October 27, 2003.

Chavez scored the game-winning goal and also recorded two assists as the Catamounts kept their playoff hopes alive in a 3-1 win over Northeastern. Chavez’s goal came as he headed the ball into the net, while at the same time crashing into the left post and dislocating his shoulder. Chavez later returned to the game and assisted on the Catamounts insurance goal.

Lubezky recorded three goals over two games during the week as he scored both of the Hawks’ goals in a 2-1 conference win over Albany. Earlier in the week he also scored one goal against the University of Connecticut, which is currently ranked number 22 in the nation. With the three goals, Lubezky moved into third-place on Hartford’s all-time goals scored list and is now four goals away from breaking the record.

Gonet was named America East Rookie of the Week for the third time this season after he recorded his 11th and 12th shutouts in goal this week, breaking the school’s season shutout record. Gonet had seven saves in the two games as the Bearcats shut down Stony Brook 2-0 and tied Maine 0-0.
