CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Binghamton junior Daniel Nevares paced Binghamton to a series sweep of Hartford over the weekend and earned America East Baseball Player of the Week honors, the conference office announced Monday. Nevares was honored along with Albany senior Austin Chase, who was named Pitcher of the Week, and Stony Brook freshman Tim Knesnk earned Rookie of the Week.

Nevares (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) becomes the third different Bearcat to earn Player of the Week honors this season joining Jake Thomas and Jordan Smucker. The second baseman was second in the conference last week with seven RBI, batting .500 with two doubles, a home run, four runs scored and three walks. He belted a three-run home run to pace Binghamton to an 8-2 win over Hartford in the series finale, and raised his team-best double total to 16, just three shy of the single-season school record.

Chase (East Greenbush, N.Y.) threw his second-consecutive complete game, leading Albany to its only win of the series against Maine. Chase held the Black Bears to just three runs and scattered three hits, while striking out three in nine full frames. With just a one-run cushion, Chase put the game away for the Great Danes with six straight outs in the final two innings, setting the Black Bears down in order. The East Greenbush, N.Y. native has now earned victories in each of his last five outings on the mound. In conference play, Chase owns a 4-1 record with a 2.97 ERA.

Knesnik (Milford, Pa.) was once again strong and crucial in relief for the Seawolves, delivering seven innings last week while allowing just one run. On Sunday at UMBC, Knesnik came into the game trailing 5-1 and pitched five shutout innings, giving his offense a chance to rally with six unanswered runs to come away with a 7-5 win. Knesnik scattered five hits and one walk in his outing and struck out four. The freshman allowed just one run over seven innings last week while compiling six strikeouts.

Notes: Maine starting pitcher Tommy Lawrence won set an America East single season record with his eighth win in conference play… The Black Bears are the first team to clinch a spot in the America East Championship… Stony Brook and Hartford are tied for the final spot in the America East Championship with six games left.
