Lowell’s LeLacheur Park to Host 2013 America East Baseball Championship

Release: 03/06/2013

LOWELL, Mass. – The America East Conference will take its 2013 baseball championship to LeLacheur Park in Lowell, Mass., home of Boston Red Sox Single A affiliate Lowell Spinners.

The state of the art facility was tabbed to host the entire championship, the first time it has been held at a predetermined minor-league facility since 2001. The 2013 America East Championship will begin on Wednesday May 22, and conclude on either May 24 or May 25.

“Holding our baseball championship at a first-class minor league facility enhances our ability to put on the best possible tournament for our student-athletes, coaches and fans,” said America East Commissioner Amy Huchthausen. “LeLacheur Park is a beautiful stadium in a perfect location for our fans and institutions, offering all the amenities, plus much more, for our championship.”

LeLacheur Park, the Lowell Spinner’s 4,767 seat stadium, opened in 1998 and has been the home of the Spinners ever since.

The venue, which also acts as the home site for future America East member UMass Lowell, was built between a partnership with the city of Lowell and the University of Massachusetts Lowell and offers views of the Aiken Street Bridge and Lawrence Mills.

The top four teams in the America East regular-season will advance to the 2013 America East Baseball Championship. Reigning champion Stony Brook became the first America East team to qualify for the College World Series since the conference started sponsoring the sport in 1990 after advancing through the regional round before moving on to the Super Regionals where the Seawolves upset perennial power LSU.

The first three games and the if necessary game on Saturday night of the America East Baseball Championship will be streamed live for free on AmericaEast.com through Pack Network. Game four will be available on ESPN3 as well as WatchESPN.com, on smartphones and tablets via the WatchESPN app and through ESPN on Xbox LIVE.
