CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After the first three weeks of awards were dominated by New Hampshire and Stony Brook, the UMBC Retrievers swept the America East volleyball weekly awards. The recipients for the week ending Sept. 16 were announced Monday afternoon.

Sherelle Walker and Mallory McIntyre led the Retrievers to a 3-1 week and were both named to the Pirate Invitational All-Tournament team, earning Walker both Player and Rookie of the Week honors, while McIntyre was named Setter of the Week.

Walker (New Freedom, Pa.) ranked fifth in the conference with 3.06 kills per set, registering double-digit kills in three of UMBC’s four matches last week. She started the week with a 12-kill, nine-block effort in a five-set win at Saint Francis. Over the weekend at the Pirate Invitational, Walker twice was in double figures in kills, first in the team’s 3-1 win over tournament host East Carolina (15) and then again on Saturday against Marshall (19). For the season, Walker leads UMBC with 180 kills, registering double-digit kills on nine occasions.

McIntyre (Winnipeg, Manitoba), who returned to the UMBC lineup after recovering from an injury, helped the Retrievers to a 2-1 record at the Pirate Invitational. The junior recorded a career-high 38 assists in UMBC’s win against East Carolina and again in a win over Coastal Carolina. Against the Pirates, McIntyre also recorded her first double-double of the year with 38 assists and 10 digs. She averaged 9.5 assists per set in UMBC’s two wins.
