CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Stony Brook and UMBC both went unbeaten over the weekend in volleyball conference play to earn America East weekly honors, the conference office announced Monday. For the Seawolves, Evann Slaughter was named Player of the Week while Melissa Rigo earned her second-straight Rookie of the Week nod. The Retrievers' Mallory McIntyre earned Setter of the Week.

Slaughter (Clinton, Md.) helped lead the Seawolves to wins over Providence and New Hampshire to remain in contention for a spot in the America East Championship. The junior ranked third in the conference in kills per set at 4.00 and led the league in hitting percentage at .447. She also averaged 1.14 blocks per set. She led the team with 16 kills in the four-set win over UNH and hit .462 in the match, her second-best hitting percentage of the season. Her eight blocks were a season high for a conference weekend this season. Slaughter now has six matches of at least 10 kills and a .400 hitting percentage this season, two coming this weekend.

McIntyre (Winnipeg, Manitoba) was the catalyst of the UMBC offense as the Retrievers beat Albany for the first time in over five years, while also topping Hartford in two matches over the weekend. She led the conference with 13.14 assists per set, while quarterbacking the Retrievers to a .236 hitting percentage. Against the Great Danes on Friday, the junior recorded a career-high 59 assists while also scooping up 15 digs for her fourth double-double of the season. McIntyre also recorded five total blocks against Albany. On Sunday, McIntyre averaged 11.00 assists per game as UMBC swept Hartford in three sets. McIntyre has notched 633 assists this season with a 9.74 assists per set average.

Rigo (East Northport, N.Y.) earned America East Rookie of the Week for the sixth time this season after ranking second in the conference and first among freshmen in kills per set at 4.43. She also ranked first among freshmen and sixth in the conference in hitting percentage at .316. Rigo continued her historic freshman season with two more double-doubles in a weekend sweep over Providence and New Hampshire. She hit .410 and averaged 5.7 kills per set in a 3-0 win over Providence, finishing with 17 kills and 11 digs. She then had 14 kills, 10 digs and three blocks in a four-set win over New Hampshire. For the weekend, she hit .316 and averaged 4.43 kills per set. Rigo leads America East at 4.36 kills per set.

Notes
Albany's loss to UMBC gave the Great Danes back-to-back losses in America East matches for the first time since 2003 when they lost two-straight matches to open the conference season to Northeastern and New Hampshire(October 7 and 10, 2003)... Albany needs a win in one of its last two matches to win its fifth-straight America East regular-season title and eighth in the last nine years... Five teams are alive for four spots in the 2012 America East Championship, but no teams have clinched a spot with just two playing dates remaining... Rigo leads the conference in kills per set at 4.36 kills per set. The last time a rookie led the conference in kills per set was Maine's Leah Voss in 2000.
