Trio Splits #AEVB Weekly Honors

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – With three weekends remaining in the America East volleyball regular-season, New Hampshire and Stony Brook sit tied with 6-2 records. Each team played one conference game last week and three teams were recognized in the week nine honors:

Player of the Week
Melissa Rigo, So., Stony Brook
East Northport, N.Y.

  • Registered 16 kills on a .273 hitting percentage and a career-high 27 digs in a five-set win over UMBC.
  • Ranked eighth in kills (3.20) and third in digs (5.40) in conference matches last week. She was the only player to rank in the top-eight of both categories.
  • Recorded her 11th double-double of the year with five coming in America East play.
  • Tallied the final four points in the decisive fifth set.
  • Helped Stony Brook hold UMBC to .090 hitting.

Rookie of the Week
Allison Hovie, Fr., Binghamton
Neenah, Wis.

  • Recorded eight kills on a .318 hitting percentage as well as 13 digs to help Binghamton to a sweep of Albany.
  • Ranked 11th in kills per set, 12th in hitting percentage, fourth in service aces and ninth in digs in conference matches last week.
  • Had just one attack error on 22 attempts, helping the Bearcats to a season-best .356 hitting percentage.

Setter of the Week
Jackie Tamburri, Jr., Hartford
Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.

  • Led Hartford to a 1-0 week with a win over Providence, totaling 49 assists and 20 digs for a double-double.
  • Led the conference in assists per set (12.25), ranked third in digs per set (5.00) and helped Hartford to a .274 hitting percentage which was third in the conference last week.
  • The 49 assists were the second-highest of the season for the junior, helping Hartford to 60 kills, the team’s second-highest total.

Around the League

  • New Hampshire and Stony Brook are tied for first with 6-2 records and three weekends left of conference play.
  • Binghamton defeated Albany at home for the first time since 2006.
