John Gallagher Extended
Hartford men's basketball coach John Gallagher received a contract extension on Tuesday that will keep him in West Hartford through the 2017-18 season. Entering his fourth season at Hartford, Gallagher led the Hawks to one of their best seasons in program history last year as they went 17-14, tying the school's Division I-mark for wins, and made their first-ever postseason appearance playing in the CIT. Hartford is poised to improve even more in 2013-14 as it returns 10 players who accounted for over 90 percent of the team's scoring and rebounding last season.

Former America East Lacrosse Stars Taken in NLL Draft
Four America East men's lacrosse alums were selected in the 2013 National Lacrosse League Draft on Monday. (NLL Story) UMBC's Scott Jones was the seventh overall pick, going in the first-round Minnesota. Vermont's A.J. Masson (2nd rd, 12th overall - Philadelphia), Albany's Mike Woods (2nd rd, 16th overall - Toronto) and Stony Brook's JJ Laforet (5th rd, 42nd overall - Minnesota) were also taken. Overall, 48 America East men's lacrosse standouts have been taken in the MLL or NLL drafts. 

Three AE Baseball Players Cited By Baseball America

trio of current America East baseball standouts have been recognized by Baseball America among the stop pro prospects in the respective summer leagues they played in this year. (Full List - $).
 Leading the group is Hartford righthander Sean Newcomb, who was named one of the top prospects in the prestigous Cape Cod League. Newcomb, an America East All-Conference selection as a sophomore, led all Cape hurlers striking out 11.3 hitter per nine innings for Wareham. Also noted were Binghamton reliever Mike Urbanski (Perfect Game League) and Maine infielder Alex Caldick (West Coast League).

Four Soccer Teams Regionally Ranked
In addition to UMBC being nationally ranked, the Retrievers are also ranked regionally along with two other America East men's soccer teams. UMBC, which is a perfect 6-0 on the season, is ranked second in this week's NSCAA/Continental Tire Division I Men's Northeast regional rankings after coming in fourth last week. Hartford (4-0-2) moved up one spot to seventh and Vermont (5-1-2) remained ninth. On the women's side, Stony Brook (5-1-1) climbed back into the NSCAA/Continental Tire Division I Men's Northeast regional rankings, tying for 10th.

Four Soccer Teams Regionally Ranked
Six America East cross country programs are featured in the first in-season USTFCCCA Regional Rankings of the year. On the men's side, Maine leads the way, coming in 12th in the Northeast poll. UMBC is 13th in the Mid-Atlantic poll while Stony Brook, last year's America East champion, is 14th in the Northeast. On the women's side, five-time America East champion Stony Brook leads three ranked teams at 12th in the Northeast Poll, followed by Vermont (13th) and New Hampshire (14th.).
