Vermont's Milligan, Washuta Sweep 1st #AEMLAX Awards of 2017

BOSTON – America East’s 2017 men's lacrosse season began last week with Vermont and UMBC in action. The Catamounts picked up a pair of 13-12 overtime wins at Furman and Mercer, respectively, to get off to their first 2-0 start since 2011. Here are the first weekly award winners of the year:

Offensive Player of the Week
Cam Milligan, Vermont - Sr., Attacker, Peterborough, Ont.

  • Tallied 13 points on seven goals and six assists in a pair of road wins.
  • Set up both game-winning goals in the two 13-12 overtime wins.
  • Had four goals and four assists at Furman Thursday.
  • Followed up with three goals and two assists at Mercer Saturday.
  • This is Milligan's second career Player of the Week honor (3/23/15).

Defensive Player & Rookie of the Week
Nick Washuta, Vermont - Fr.., GK, Orono, Minn.

  • Helped Vermont overcome an 8-4 deficit en route to a 13-12 overtime win at Mercer Saturday.
  • Entered in relief during the second half and stopped six of 10 shots he faced to earn first collegiate win as the Cats' outscored Mercer 9-4 after halftime.
