Nichols, Leissner Lead Albany, UNH to Big Wins, Share Men's #AEHoops Weekly Honors

BOSTON - Vermont, New Hampshire and Albany, the three teams picked atop the America East men's basketball preseason poll, combined to go 6-1 last week, posting wins against teams picked near of the top of their respective leagues. Vermont beat reigning Ivy League champion, Yale, while UNH beat Big South preseason favorite, Winthrop, and Albany downed crosstown-rival Siena. Here are the week #3 award winners:

Co-Player of the Week
David Nichols, Albany - So., Guard, Chicago, Ill.

  • Scored 29 points to lead Albany to a win over crosstown-rival Siena, which was picked second in the MAAC preseason poll.
  • Shot 50 percent (10-of-20) from the field. 
  • Added four rebounds and four assists.

Co-Player of the Week
Tanner Leissner, New Hampshire - Jr., Forward, Converse, Texas

  • Averaged 26.5 points and 11 rebounds in leading New Hampshire to a 2-0 week.
  • Scored a career-high 31 points on 9-of-13 shooting and added eight rebounds in a win over Detroit Tuesday.
  • Tallied a double-double of 22 points and 14 rebounds in a win at Winthrop, the preseason Big South favorite, Sunday.
  • This is Leissner's second career Player of the Week award (1/25/16).

Rookie of the Week
Anthony Lamb - Fr., Forward, Rochester, N.Y.

  • Averaged 9.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in helping Vermont go 3-1 last week.
  • Had 18 points, five rebounds and three blocks in a win over Yale Saturday.
  • This is Lamb's second Rookie of the Week honor of the season (11/14).
