DiSalvo, Heuser Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams

Stony Brook women's lacrosse junior Samantha DiSalvo and UAlbany field hockey senior Paula Heuser have been named CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large selections, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
DiSalvo, a junior biology major, holds a 3.99 GPA in her undergraduate career. The midfielder earned the America East's Elite 17 Award and an all-academic team honor in addition to receiving an Undergraduate Recognition Award from Stony Brook University for academic excellence.
DiSalvo was a second-team America East all-conference selection for her performance on the field in 2017. Entering the NCAA tournament, DiSalvo has tallied 29 goals, 15 assists, 31 ground balls, 22 draw controls and 19 caused turnovers. DiSalvo has been key for a Stony Brook midfield that leads the nation in scoring defense (6.95) and scoring margin (9.26) while ranking third in scoring offense (16.21).

Heuser, a 2015-16 CoSIDA Academic Second Team All-American, earns a place on the all-district team for the third consecutive year.  On the field this season, the senior midfielder was a finalist for the Honda Award, finishing in the top-20 nationally in goals, assists and points per game, totaling 17 goals, 13 assists for 47 points.  She earned NFHCA First Team All-America honors and America East Midfielder of the Year.

In the classroom, Heuser, who will graduate this spring, stands with a 3.87 GPA as a business major.  She was recognized as the 2016 America East Scholar-Athlete for field hockey and is a member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad.

This honor nominates both student-athletes for the Academic All-America team, which will be voted on starting next week. The CoSIDA at-large category includes beach volleyball, bowling, crew/rowing, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, men's volleyball, water polo and men's wrestling.
