Here we go again. That is, another go-round the conference schedule.
Eight teams begin the second half of the double round-robin America East schedule on Saturday with four teams looking to avenge earlier season losses.
In Durham, New Hampshire (11-9, 4-4 AE) welcomes UMBC (11-10, 5-3 AE) to Lundholm Gym hoping to defend its homecourt just as the Retrievers did back on January 2. The Wildcats led for most of the second half before falling to the hosts 67-65. The top two scorers in America East play square off as UNH senior Denise Beliveau leads the way with 16.4 ppg and UMBC senior Erin Brown follows in second with 14.9 ppg.
Vermont (8-13, 2-6 AE) would like to defeat Stony Brook (4-17, 1-7 AE) on Long Island after the Seawolves knocked off the Catamounts in Burlington back in early January 54-47. The Catamounts will likely have to rely on their freshmen, particularly forward Niki Taylor who has averaged 12.0 points and 9.7 rebounds per game over the last three contests. Stony Brook junior guard Dani Klupenger netted a game-high 18 points with four three-pointers in the last meeting.
Second-place Albany (13-8, 7-1 AE) returns home to host Hartford. The Great Danes dropped the Hawks 40-37 on January 2, handing Hartford its first home loss of the season. Since then, Albany has surrendered over 48 points to just one opponent, twice limiting opponents to under 40 points. Hartford (12-10, 3-5 AE) has won three of its last five games and has been seeing consistent play from junior forward Nikkia Smith (10.5 ppg in America East games).
Capping off Saturday's women's hoops action is Binghamton at Maine. The Bearcats won the first matchup 72-54 with seniors Viive Rebane and Orla O'Reilly combining for 48 points. Maine senior Brittany Williams scored a team-high 18 points, while classmate Samantha Baranowski, who is averaging 13 ppg in conference play, chipped in 11 points.
